E-coat (CED)
Put the pretreated white body in the cationic electrophoretic paint, apply positive electricity to the anode tube on the bottom of the electrophoretic tank and the wall plate, and negative electricity to the body, so that a potential difference will be formed between the anode tube and the body, and the positively charged cationic electrophoretic paint will migrate to the white body under the effect of potential difference, and finally adsorbed on the body to form a dense paint film, which is called electrophoretic paint, and the electrophoretic paint will become the electrophoretic layer after drying in the baking oven.

The electrophoresis layer can be approximated as a layer of paint directly attached to the body steel plate, so it is also made the primer. In fact, there is a phosphate layer formed in the pretreatment between the electrophoresis layer and the steel plate, and the phosphate layer is very, very thin, only a few μm, which will not be discussed here. The role of the electrophoretic layer is mainly two, one is to prevent rust, and the other is to improve the bonding of the paint layer. The rust prevention ability of the electrophoresis layer is the most important and critical of the four paint layers, if the quality of the electrophoresis coating is not good, then the paint is prone to the phenomenon of blistering, and if you poke the bubble, you will find rust stains inside, which means that the electrophoresis layer is destroyed leading to rusting of the iron plate. In the early years, the independent brand just started, the process can not keep up, the phenomenon of this body blistering is more common, and even the paint will appear piece by piece to fall off the phenomenon, now with the construction of new factories, the use of new technology, high quality standards, this phenomenon is basically eliminated. Independent brands have made a lot of progress over the years, and I hope they can get better and better and eventually carry the flag of China's national auto industry.

Mid-coat
A midcoat is a layer of paint in between the electrophoresis layer and the color paint layer, sprayed by a robot with midcoat paint. There is now a no midcoat process, which eliminates the midcoat and merges it with the color layer. - The answer from Dai Shaohe, the "Soul Red" here uses this process, from here we can see that the middle coating is not a very important paint layer structure, its function is relatively simple, has anti-UV, protect the electrophoresis layer, improve the rust resistance, and take into account the smoothness and impact resistance of the paint surface, and finally can also provide some adhesion for the color paint layer. Finally, it can also provide some adhesion for the color layer. It can be seen that the middle coating is actually a top and bottom layer, which plays a connecting role for the two functional coatings of electrophoresis layer and color layer.

Top coat
The color paint layer, as the name implies, is the layer of paint with color that gives us the most direct sense of color, or red or black, or Kingfisher blue, or Pittsburgh gray, or Cashmere silver, or Supersonic Quartz white. These odd or normal colors, or simply not easy to name the color by the color paint layer. The quality of the paint layer sprayed directly determines the strength of the body color expression, and the functionality is very important.

Color paint can be divided into three kinds according to the different additives: plain paint, metallic paint and pearlescent paint.

A. Plain paint is pure color, red is just a red, white is just a white, very plain, no other color mixture, no metallic shiny feeling, so called plain paint. It is like the guard in front of Buckingham Palace, whether he cries, laughs or spills, he never pays attention to you, just standing straight, looking straight ahead, always with a serious face. There may be people who feel that plain paint is relatively uninteresting and do not know how to use change to please the guests, but there are also people who like this pure color, plain and understated without fanfare.

Among the plain paint, white, red and black account for most of them, and most of the black is plain paint. Here we can tell you a little secret, all the white called polar white, snow mountain white, glacier white are basically plain paint, while the white called pearl white, pearl white are basically pearl paint.

B. Metallic paint is made by adding metal particles (aluminum powder) to plain paint. In the early days, only plain paint was used in car painting, but later a genius discovered that when aluminum powder ground to a super fine size was added to plain paint, it was found that the paint layer would show a metallic texture. Under the light, the light is reflected by the aluminum powder and comes out through the paint film, as if the whole paint layer is glowing and shining with a metallic luster, the color of the paint will look very bright at this time, giving people a light pleasure and a sense of flying, just like a group of boys riding motorcycles on the road to have fun. C. Pearl lacquer. It can be understood as replacing the aluminum powder in the metal paint with mica or pearl powder (very few manufacturers use it), and the metal paint becomes pearlescent paint. At present, pearlescent paint is mainly white, also often called pearl white, pearlescent white, in the light, is not just white, but a pearl-like color. This is mica itself is a transparent crystal in the form of flakes, when light is shot into the lacquer layer, very complicated refraction and interference will occur by the mica flakes, and the mica itself comes with some green, brown, yellow and pink hues, which makes the pearlescent lacquer add extremely rich pearl-like sparkle on the basis of the main color. The same lacquer surface will have subtle changes when viewed from different angles, and the richness and rendering power of the color is greatly increased, giving people a luxurious and noble feeling.
In fact, the effect of adding mica flakes and pearl powder is not much different, even I have to get close to distinguish, and the cost of mica flakes cost less than pearl powder, most of the pearlescent paint on the choice of mica flakes, but if compared with aluminum powder, the cost of mica is still much higher, which is one of the reasons why most of the pearlescent white or pearl white to increase the price.

Clear coat
The clear coat is the outermost layer of the car paint, a transparent layer that we can touch directly with our fingertips. Its role is similar to that of cell phone film, except that it protects the colorful paint, blocks the stones from the outside world, endures the scraping of tree branches, withstands the bird droppings from the sky, the pouring rain does not cross its line of defense, the fierce UV rays do not penetrate its chest, the 40μm body, thin but strong, resists all the damage from the outside world, just so that the color paint layer can become a beautiful layer of the years.

The role of the varnish is mainly to improve the luster of the paint, enhance the texture, UV protection, and protection against minor scratches.
